Tom Lawrence’s first-half goal was the difference at Ibrox, and the skipper praised goalkeeper Jack Butland for his contribution, with a penalty save in the final minutes of the first-half denying the Edinburgh side an equaliser.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “It was important to get the win, with the timeframe that we had from the Malmo game it was short for recovery, but the lads put everything into the game. We know our performance could've been a little bit better, but it is about that consistency of winning games by any means necessary.
“It was an important win and another clean sheet as well. Big Jack produced a great save for the penalty so when asked for he's always delivering for us so credit to him and credit to the subs that came on today.
“You want to play the best football you possibly can, every time you step foot on the pitch. We didn't show that today, but we have got to win any way possible, so we did that today, got another clean sheet and we look forward to the next game now.”
On the impact of Tom Lawrence and his stunning strike which secured the points, Tavernier added: “It was one of those games where we would have loved to get the second or third goal, but these games always require a little bit of magic. Tom has been really on-form with his goals, and we are going to need him throughout the season, it was a great strike and I am really happy for him.”
For Rangers, it was their fourth clean sheet in a row, and the right-back believes the squad are continuing to grow as a unit as attention now turns to Thursday evening’s UEFA Europa League match at home to Lyon.
He continued: “Everyone is growing together week by week, it is a young squad, so everyone is gelling and buying into the project that the manager wants. We are all applying ourselves the best we can in the training pitch so we can apply it in the games, and it is obviously important to keep clean sheets.
“We know if we can keep clean sheets, we are going to create chances, and it is about us being clinical in front of goal.
