The 19-year-old joined on the dotted line on loan from Brentford less than seven days ago and was given the nod from the off against Club Brugge in UEFA Champions League qualifying action on Tuesday evening.
It wasn’t the result that the Gers were seeking, but Meghoma insists the squad are hard at work on the training pitch to improve.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash against St. Mirren in Paisley, the teenager said: “[Tuesday] was a learning curve for all of us. We know what we need to improve on and that’s the main thing for the team.
“There are a lot of things that we need to improve on, as you saw from the game, but the manager is keeping it tight in the group and we know what we need to do as a team.
“I knew that I was playing from the start. A lot of people were saying I was thrown into the deep end, but it wasn’t that. I was always excited to come here and play football.
“I knew the gaffer previously from Southampton. It was quite quick in terms of that, and the transition happened within days. I was ready to play because of my pre-season which was the most important part.
“For us, we’re always focussing on the next game. Club Brugge is the second game and St. Mirren is next, so that’s where our full focus lies.
“Rangers are such a big club and the expectations are so high. I knew what I was coming into when I came here. It’s up to us as players to recorrect our wrongs.”
Russell Martin was the man who handed Meghoma his senior debut at Southampton in August 2023 and, having reconnected with the former Saints boss in Glasgow, he says he’s more convinced than ever that the Head Coach’s beliefs will bear fruit.
He added: “Russell is a fantastic Head Coach. You can see what he’s trying to do. As fans you need to stick with him and trust the process because it will show over the next few months.
“He’s had a full pre-season here so the players do know what they’re doing. As a team we know what we need to correct and we’re working on that every day on the training pitch.
“He was the most influential part of [my move] because he was the one who gave me my debut. He knows how I play because I’ve played with him for a long time. He’s one of the biggest parts as to why I’m here.”
