Defoe has netted twice for Gers this season in six appearances – the second of those goals being a quite ridiculous finish against Livingston on October 25 for his 300th career goal.
He revealed the work he puts in to make sure he is ready when called upon, and told today’s press conference: "I feel really sharp. I still feel like I'm playing at maybe 70 per-cent as you still need a run of games to get that match fitness, but in terms of small areas, I feel really sharp.
"I the Livingston game, I felt really sharp, fresh and strong, and that is probably because of the work I have done off the pitch in the gym.
"Not being in the Europa League squad, on the Wednesday I train hard and I'll stay behind and I'll do running and a big session in the gym as I know I have the day off the next day.
"So I'll peak going into the weekend which has really helped me.
"I think it is important when you are playing at a club like this to compete in every competition.
"You have to believe you can win in every competition, whether that is the cup, the league or the Europa League, which we are competing well in.
"So you have to believe you can compete in every competition, and it is the first trophy and we are going to try and win that."
Defoe went on to highlight the incredible intensity in Rangers training at the moment, and how that is translating to performances on the pitch.
He was also quizzed on the differences between when he joined the club in January 2019 and now, adding: "The squad is stronger if you look in every position.
"Before if you had players who were maybe not 100 per-cent fit, you could take risks and play those players, but now, if someone has a little niggle you don't have to take any risks as there are players who can come in and put in those same performances that we need as the squad is so strong.
"The mentality at the minute from every player is where it needs to be. I think everyone knows every game you play - not just in the games but also in training - and for me that is where is starts.
"Training has been really sharp over the last few weeks and everyone has been on it in training and everyone is doing the extras in the gym and just ticking every box.
"I think that shows in our performances."
