The Light Blues will face their rivals for the third time this season on Sunday afternoon as they look to take a step closer to winning the Sky Sports Cup for the third campaign running.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference, the head coach said: “Taking success from this competition last year? We have to, I think that is really important, especially in two cup semi-finals as well.
“I did say of the Sky Sports Cup semi-final that was a game worthy of any final as well.
“I thought it would have been a really good final, that is not to take away anything from the opponents that we did play in the final.
“The game in itself gave everything, I think everybody saw that.
“Even from the neutral perspective you could see that both teams were really going for it and wanting to win that game and we managed to come out on top so we have got to take confidence from that.
“We have to take confidence from our previous results against them as well, we will be using everything that we can, we know that we have got to do better in certain areas and we have had a really good couple of training weeks.
“We are confident going into the weekend, we know it is going to be a tough game but we are ready for it.”
Having claimed the trophy as her first piece of silverware in charge of the Light Blues last March, the former Lionesses wants her squad to stand up to the challenge and take a step closer to getting their hands on it once again.
She continued: “It is brilliant, I think it is perfect that we have got more teams competing and making it more competitive and making the games a lot more interesting.
“Both of our semi-finals last year against Celtic last year were excellent games and it just makes that game a little bit more exciting.
“We are looking for it to be a healthy and exciting game, both teams are going to want to win, that is how it should be.
“I think these games always look slightly different anyway because they bring their own special spice to it.
“These games hold their entity because of the rivalry.
“Which is brilliant but we do know that these games look very different each time you play each other.
“Both teams can dominate and not always the best team comes out on top.
“There is something different about these games but every time you step out and beat your opponents and beat them well it has got to give you confidence.
“Any moment that I can give confidence to my players and hopefully they take some then the better.”
Having gone unbeaten in the last four outings in the fixture and the boss suffering defeat just once in seven matches overall, she feels the team must take a lot from edging the recent meetings between the sides.
She added: “The players always want to beat their opponents; you ask our rivals they will want to do exactly the same.
“So you have got both teams really wanting to get one over on their rivals.
“Any time that can step out winners and beat them it is always a bonus.
“We managed to do that in our last league game, we came away from that with a 3-2 victory so we have got to take confidence from that game.
“We will look at pieces from that game that we can use in this game as well, but more than ever right now I am looking at us and what we can do and improve in-house and improve from our previous performances because we have needed to.”
