The Light Blues last night concluded their pre-season training camp in Spain in a friendly clash against Levante.
In soaring temperatures, the players have been put through their paces as the coaching staff look to fine-tune the squad ahead of their trip to the northeast in seven days’ time.
Speaking to RangersTV to review the week in Spain, Potter commented: “The physical element is really big for us at this point in the season because it’s the last week where we can really ramp it up.
“We needed to make sure we were hitting that element, as well as getting enough information into them where they can take it on board.
“We’re preparing for a season to start in just over a weeks’ time so it’s really important for us.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better facility. I managed to come out and have a look at it a couple of months ago, and I knew it would be spot on for exactly what we need.
“It’s been a real good fit for what we need at the start of the season.
“We’re never going to know until [the season] starts, but we’ve prepared the best that we can.
“The pre-season that we had last year was a little bit stop-start, but we brought the girls in earlier this summer because of the international break.
“We can only do what we can do; we’ve reflected a lot and we feel we’ve got it near enough right.
“We’ve hit all the targets that we’ve wanted.
“Hopefully it comes to fruition when we get to the Aberdeen game and I have no doubt the players will be ready physically.”
It promises to be an exciting start to the campaign for Rangers who, alongside their domestic commitments, will face a trip to Arsenal in UEFA Champions League qualifying next month.
Potter believes the week in Spain has been invaluable on a number of fronts, and she has praised the effort level and commitment of her players.
She added: “We’re mixing it up between league preparations and Champions League preparations, and we’ve matched it up pretty well.
“We’ve had a good week and we’re happy about it; we now need to ensure we’re preparing for Aberdeen when we get back to Scotland.
“It’s always tough when you come away to the sunnier climates, especially in comparison to the Scottish weather.
“It’s nice for us to get away and enjoy this, but it’s tough and a real hard shift for the girls coming into the new season.
“We had to get a lot of work done and there’s been no rest for the wicked.
“We have had some real good outcomes and we’re definitely looking forward.
“I couldn’t be more happy [with the energy and application].
“It’s always a question and you can always make a bit of an excuse for it, but we haven’t had it.
“We’ve been surprised at the energy levels of the girls and what they’ve been able to show, and we need to continue.
“We ask for no excuses from them and we need to make sure we’re continuing that culture.”
