With Dundee United the visitors to Ibrox tomorrow night, before a trip to Easter Road to face Hibernian on Saturday, the defender insists the squad are focused on producing two positive performances to end the campaign.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, Souttar said: “The season hasn’t been good enough and everyone is well aware of that, so we have to concentrate on these last few games.
“It is important in these next two games that we finish the season strong because we have to go into the summer positively.”
Souttar was asked about fellow defender Leon Balogun, with the 36-year-old continuing to put in some top performances at the back for Rangers this campaign.
He continued: “Age doesn’t matter when you are playing like that. You see a lot of footballers nowadays, they play well into their 30’s so I don’t think age should be taken into consideration.
“He is a senior figure in the dressing room, he has been here for a long time, so he is a good person to have about the place, he is enjoyable to play with as well.
“You need characters at a club like this, and you need experience and that is what he brings.”
On his own season, Souttar, who has played 44 games for club and country, added: “I have played a lot of football, it has been an up and down season. I think if at the start of the season I was told I’d play this number of games I would’ve taken it.
“It is difficult to look at yourself because the season as a whole hasn’t gone how we would’ve wanted as a club.”
On the impact of Barry Ferguson as head coach over the past few months, Souttar added: “I think it has been difficult timing for him to come in, it would’ve been difficult for anyone to come in in the position he has come in at.
“I think the first week he had in the job was really good, there are obviously going to be difficult moments too, but I was glad for him at the weekend when we got that win.
“Personally, I have enjoyed working under him. What you see is what you get, he is honest, and I like that because if he likes something he will tell you and if he doesn’t, he’ll say it, everyone knows where they stand, and I have enjoyed working with him.”
