Philippe Clement and his men start their defence of the trophy against St Johnstone, and Souttar insists the squad’s attention quickly turned to the match as they look to get off to a strong start in the cup.
Speaking to the press at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, he said: “It was difficult on the night to accept but the games come thick and fast, and we are moving right on. The last few days we have been focused on St Johnstone and it was quite easy in that sense that there was a game so quick to take your mind off it.
“We had similar last season at this stage so it can be tough, but it is part and parcel of football, it is not always going to be smooth, and you need to stand up and be counted at these points.
“Having the game so soon helps because your focus moves onto that. It is like any game you review every stage of it, you review before the sending off, after it, what we could've done better and what we did well. There are a lot of factors, not just the sending off and every game you can improve.”
When asked about pressure on the squad, Souttar says there is always pressure at Rangers, and insists they are all focused on progressing in the cup.
He continued: “The weekend is the first opportunity to show it is not going to happen. I don't think we have done too much different, you obviously review the game then our full focus has been on St Johnstone and how we want to play on Saturday. I think that is the good thing the game has come around so quick, and it has allowed us to do that.
“There's pressure on most games at Rangers for one reason or another, when you play for Rangers, you need to handle the pressure and that is what we have to do. Every trophy is important, and every game is important so we will be doing everything we can to win the game.”
