Philippe Clement’s side drew 0-0 with Hearts at Tynecastle in the Premiership season opener with both sides creating chances.
Tom Lawrence and Cyriel Dessers came closest to breaking the deadlock for the Gers, but the squad had to settle for a point.
Souttar admits the first half display was below par although he believes they will improve.
Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “I thought in the first half we were poor on the ball and off of it.
“In spells we played well in the second half and we had chances but we have to improve from there.
“I have played here and I know how Hearts want to play, they want to make it difficult and put you in situations you aren't comfortable with and they did that.
“But we have to play our own game more, pass it quicker and move it quicker and in the second half we did that.
“We need to learn from every game but we need to be in the here and now. You can talk about the future but we need to be on it right now.
“It is all about recovery and looking after your body and making sure we are in the best shape for Tuesday so we can go and put in a performance over there.”
Summer signing Connor Barron started the match in the capital while Vaclav Cerny came off the bench.
Fellow new boy Robin Propper watched on from the stands after only joining the club on Thursday.
Souttar says the early signs are encouraging and believes it is up to the experienced players to take the new stars under their wing.
He added: “We have to look after the new boys who have come in.
“They have settled in well but some of the boys who have come in have only had a few days training.
“So to come to an atmosphere like this is difficult, but you can see the quality they have and we will see that this season I am sure.”
