Capped twice already by his nation, McLaughlin is desperate to become a regular fixture for the Dark Blues going forward – and he reckons the move to Gers could help him realise his dream.
Speaking to RangersTV after singing his contract, McLaughlin said: "I hope so and I hope that it certainly helps that situation. It has been slightly difficult with the league situation down in England and hopefully this can further my reputation and help in-terms of how it is viewed by Steve Clarke and the Scotland setup.
"Knowing the club already, and what a massive club it is and what a huge opportunity it could be, and speaking with the manager and his staff, and knowing the vision and the direction they have got, and what they are trying to achieve here, and the opportunity to be a part of that and hopefully be a part of something special here was what sold it to me."
One man who knows plenty both about Rangers and Scotland is current Gers number one Allan McGregor.
He’s someone McLaughlin knows from previous Scotland squads prior to McGregor announcing his international retirement, and he’s looking forward to picking his brains and training with him on a daily basis.
McLaughlin continued: "Greegsy is a fantastic goalkeeper and I have worked with him in small parts before with the Scotland set-up and I know about him and it has been always great to get to work with people of his standard day-in, day-out.
McLaughlin, who has impressed with his consistency and durability in over 400 career appearances, believes he can add plenty now to the current setup at Rangers.
He continued: "Hopefully I can bring my experience. The age I am at now, the number of games I have played, the level I have played at and the clubs I have played for have all helped me to become the goalkeeper that I am.
"I am still very hungry and feel that I am in a good position in my career. I still have a lot to give and a lot to offer, and hopefully, I can just come and help to improve the overall standard of the squad, of the goalkeepers and do whatever I can do to help this team.
"I also have the experience of playing at Ibrox when I was at Hearts as well, so I have experienced that and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the feeling, and I already have an idea of what it is going to be like.
"But to actually play for the club will be a different experience and it is one I am really looking forward to."
