The 16-year-old forward last night popped up with the decisive goal that powered the young Gers to glory in the competition.
With Findlay Curtis’ corner cleared only as far as the Welsh Under-17 international, he fired a volley goalwards which wrongfooted the Aberdeen goalkeeper via a deflection.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, a delighted Gentles said: “I’m really happy. It’s what we’ve worked towards this year and it’s the biggest thing that we can win in club football, so I’m delighted.
“My goal? I just tried to hit it towards the target and hope it deflects somewhere, and I’m glad that it happened.
“I hope my family are proud of me and I’m really happy to do it today.”
The Light Blues fell behind in the contest, although they immediately hoisted themselves off the canvas to respond via a Curtis spot-kick.
Gentles proved the match winner with his strike moments later, and the side were paid a visit by first-team manager, Philippe Clement, at full-time who offered his congratulations.
The Welshman continued: “I thought in the first 15 minutes the game was really scrappy, but for the rest of the second half we were the better team without having the final product.
“We went down in the second half, but we responded really well.
“It was difficult falling behind, especially with it being such a poor goal to give away.
“But we bounced back really well, and Archie [Stevens] has done well to win the penalty.
“The final goal is to get towards the first-team, but I’m still young and I’ll keep developing to hopefully get there one day.”
