Kevin Murphy Happy With Dominant Performance

KEVIN MURPHY praised a dominant performance from Rangers as they beat Spartans 1-0 in Edinburgh this afternoon.

The Gers assistant boss was delighted with the display from his side as they controlled the match at Ainslie Park.

Demi Vance’s 14th minute header sealed the victory as Rangers made it two wins from two in the league.

Speaking to RangersTV after the game, Murphy said: “We are delighted to get the three points, that is the primary focus and the conditions were difficult.

“It was a great goal, Demi says she doesn't score many but that's her got two in two games which is great.

“We were quite comfortable throughout the whole game. Spartans are very well organised, they are always looking to be a threat on the counter attack but the girls handled that really well.

“We dominated the ball, our movement was really good and our rotations were excellent.

“Our only disappointment was that we didn't capitalise on some of the chances we had but it is hard to be too critical because I thought they were excellent from start to finish.”

Despite being unable to get a second goal, Murphy was pleased with the calmness shown from the squad as they kept the pressure on Spartans.

He continued: “There was a calmness in our play today and even in the last five minutes although we were relentless to try and get that next goal we were still calm in our possession.

“Spartans played a few long balls up in the last couple of minutes and I thought we were very calm.

“It is still a young team in terms of they haven't played many games together so it bodes well for the future.

“I think a clean sheet for us was massive. Although we won the game against Hearts comfortably, we were a bit disappointed to concede that goal.

“To get through 90 minutes and look very solid and strong as a back line and as a unit will hopefully give us a platform to build on in the next couple of weeks.”
