The midfielder played the second-half of the 0-0 draw against the Belgian Pro League side and said it is important the squad can build endurance ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “It was tough, obviously getting the minutes in the tank was important. We had a tough session yesterday and had a bit of a session this morning, so it gets that endurance.
“There’s obviously only so much you can do in training so you want to get that sharpness up from games and we have got a lot of games this pre-season which will stand us in good stead.
“There are a few new signings as well, so it is getting to know how they play, and their habits and stuff like that so it is the only way to do it on the pitch.”
Reflecting on the first few days of the training camp, Dowell said: “It has been tough, it has been hard work, but it felt good out there.
"I was tiring towards the end, we have worked hard so far this week but that is what the manager wants. He wants us to be playing with a bit of strain in our bodies which we did today, so it was good.
“It is always good to go away in pre-season and get a bit of bonding with the lads. We had a bonding day yesterday going in the lake, which was a good laugh, but it is good being in each other’s pockets for the week and getting to know the new lads.”
