Kieran’s football journey so far has included positive loan spells with Gala Fairydean, Albion Rovers, Raith Rovers and Alloa and he moves to Firhill with fellow academy player Rhys Breen – who is experiencing a loan for the first time in his fledgling career.
20-year-old goalie Wright says spending the season at Partick Thistle will be hugely beneficial and he can’t wait to get started.
The Scottish youth international, pictured promoting the Rangers Youth Development Company whose annual donations assist the Rangers Academy, said: “I can’t wait to get going and play games again. I had a training session with them before I was away on Scotland duty recently and it is great to get back into full-time training again.
“It gives me such a buzz and hopefully I can get the number one jersey and keep it.
“It has been a while since I have had a run of games. I was with Alloa at the start of the year before the Coronavirus hit so it will be good to get back playing again.
“Training is brilliant but training with a purpose and playing a game at the end of the week is what I am most looking forward to.
“I’ll train with Thistle on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and when the first-team squad is clear from the Rangers training ground I will go in and do my gym programmes there.
“Getting into a routine will keep me on the ball.
“I have enjoyed all my loan spells so far and you can learn so much. I had a few setbacks with injuries in the past so I am hoping to get a full season’s worth of games.
“Partick Thistle are a really good club and this is a good loan move for me. The coaching staff are brilliant. Ian McCall is the manager and Kenny Arthur is the goalkeeping coach and they have so much experience.
“They are top, top guys and there are good players there as well.
“Rhys is also with me too and it is always good to have people you know around you.
“I am delighted for big Rhys. He has had a couple of bad injuries in the past so I am glad he has this chance to get competitive games under his belt. It will do him the world of good as well.
“You have to learn your trade and get experience playing games in the lower leagues and be ready for the top flight.
“I am looking forward to working with Kenny Arthur day in, day out and hopefully I can improve my game.
“Rangers are very good with their loan system. Every one of the young boys that goes out comes back better and stronger for the experience.
Goalkeeping is such a specialist position and being comfortable with your feet is just as important as preventing goals these days.
Kieran is working hard on all aspects of his game and says studying top keepers in top leagues around the world, allied to his training experiences with the likes of Allan McGregor, Jon McLaughlin and now the coaching staff at Partick Thistle will stand him in good stead for the future.
He continued: “It is not just about saving shots or taking crosses, goalkeepers need to be just as good with their feet as they are with their hands.
“You can see that when you watch English Premier League games with the goalkeepers there.
“I have always liked Jan Oblak at Atletico Madrid. He is so consistent in every game he plays.
“I also like Alisson at Liverpool and Ederson at Manchester City. Those two are on a different level. They create goals as well with their quick thinking and long passes.
“I can learn from watching these guys too.
“Hopefully I can do well at Partick Thistle this season and earn a new contract at Rangers. I know that is easier said than done but I want to do well this season and show what I can do.
“That’s the main goal for me.
“It’s great to be back training and playing again and I was away with Scotland recently and really enjoyed it. The training was brilliant and it is always great to go away with the national team. It is always an honour to represent your county.
“We won 1-0 in Lithuania and had a great week of training so it was a good experience. It was good to meet up with the boys again.”
