King: We Got the Win

LEON King turned in a superb performance alongside Ben Davies at the heart of the Rangers defence as the Light Blues bounced back from their midweek Champions League defeat by beating Motherwell at Fir Park.

18 year-old King was a rock in the 2-1 victory, with both he and Davies doing superbly to limit Well to virtually nothing in the closing stages of this tense encounter.

Speaking afterwards to RangersTV, King explained: "Obviously, we have had a tough week and we came here having to bounce back from a tough defeat in the Champions League.

"At times it wasn't pretty, but we came here, got the job done and got the three points in the end.

"I know I'm the young one in the team, but I am proud of the players today. We stood up, we were counted, and we got the win.

"At a club like Rangers the expectation is to win, but that is what you need to do for the club, the manager and the fans especially."

King started alongside Davies for the first time today, with Connor Goldson having been ruled out until after the World Cup.

The opportunity for the Academy graduate for the upcoming period is great for him – but he knows he must remain humble to do that.

"It is amazing, but I need to keep my head down and keep going,” he added. “I just need to keep working with the coaching staff every single day to make myself better.

"Other than midweek, that is the first time I have played alongside Ben in a game in the Premiership - that was good and hopefully we can build something going forward."
