The striker enjoyed a fantastic month for the Light blues, scoring seven goals as well as providing three assists for her teammates as the Gers won their four fixtures in the SWPL.
The 26-year-old picks up the award for the first time and shared her delight at being recognised for her efforts.
She said: “I am obviously really happy to win the award. It is the first time I have won a player of the month award so it is a really special moment. I think as a full team we have had a really positive September so to be able to get a little bit of recognition for that is really nice.
“I am really happy; is part of my game getting on the ball and trying to link with other players and then getting into the box and scoring goals as well.
"I am really happy with the goals and assists, also on the other side of that obviously my teammates have helped a lot in assisting me. It is my name on the award but overall we have had a really good month as a team.”
Howat feels the squad have really started to gel together in recent weeks and spoke of her striker partnership with Rio Hardy as the pair currently sit top of the SWPL goal scoring charts.
She continued: “I think September has been a really positive month for us, as a squad we have gelled a lot. We are starting to really play some good football; we have got to grips with the formation and what Jo wants us to do. It has been a really positive month and it is definitely one we now need to kick on and go and do for the rest of the season.
“It is different, it took a little bit of getting used to. I think myself and Rio were both used to playing as a sole striker, so it has taken a little bit of time but I think now it is clicking and we have got a real good partnership up top.
“We are both scoring and assisting each other, to have us both in the top goal scorers in the league just now is really positive, I think between us we have got about 18 goals, it is really good to play alongside Rio and it is hopefully only going to continue as the season goes on.”
The striker’s form also saw her called up to the Scotland national team for the first time in her career last month and says she is hoping to continue her impressive club form to hopefully be a part of future squads to come.
She added: “I was absolutely delighted; it was the first time I have been called up to the A squad. I was so happy, a proud moment for myself and my family, it was just great to be in that environment and see how it all works, meet all the staff and the players and learn from the players and the staff for the short time that I was there. Hopefully looking forward to the future it is something that might happen again for me.
“It has always been a goal of mine to get into the A squad national team, to be able to get that little taste for it, get a few days in camp with the girls was really positive.
"It is definitely something that I want to be involved in the future, I think for me it is just making sure that I am performing well with Rangers first and foremost and then hopefully I can get another future call-up.”
The Gers are back in league action against Hamilton this weekend before taking on Hibs in their next home fixture which will be played at Ibrox and Howat spoke of the excitement of running out at the stadium once again.
She said: “We are all really excited, buzzing to be back at Ibrox. We had a good few games last season there and had really positive performances so we are really excited to get the opportunity to play there again this season against a strong Hibs side. It should be a tough test but a really good occasion and we are all looking forward to it.”
