The forward, who made such an impressive start to the season where she picked up back-to-back SWPL player of the month awards, pulled on a light blue jersey for the first time since November after making a full recovery from a knee injury.
Speaking to RangersTV after claiming the first silverware of the season with a 4-1 victory over Partick Thistle, she says she worked so hard to get to that point and shared her delight of being part of the side to win the trophy once again.
She said: “Making your return to the pitch in a cup final, describe that feeling for us? It is unbelievable.
“It has been really tough. Obviously I had to get a wee surgery just before Christmas, so I had a few months out but the work that has been put in behind the scenes from physios who have been excellent with me.
“All the sports science and the coaching staff and stuff. All the girls have got me through it as well, Kirsty Maclean and Rachel McLauchlan have been there by side so it was nice to share that moment with them and hopefully they can get themselves back soon as well.”
The 26-year-old praised the Gers for responding to last weekend’s Old Firm defeat in the best way possible, as she hopes this can kick them on to enjoy a successful end to the campaign.
She continued: “We have had an excellent start to the season. Obviously the last couple of weeks we have been disappointed but we have managed to put that Celtic game to bed and we have went out and won that first trophy.
“At this club you are expected to win trophies all season, so we have got the first one under our belt and we will enjoy it and we’ll use that to then kick us on this season.”
Howat hailed the Rangers support for getting them over the line on the day as she touched on her fond memories of Tynecastle having won the trophy in the stadium for the second season running.
She added: “What has it been like celebrating in front of the supporters? It has been excellent, the fans pushed us through the full game.
“They were really close to the pitch so the atmosphere was really good.
“It is a stadium we like playing in. The pitch is really good, the fans are really close to the pitch.
“We have had really good memories here and we have managed to get another trophy here as well so it is a good day overall for us.”
