Latest Rangers Loan Review

RANGERS have a number of players from both the first-team and the Academy out on loan at present. Here’s our review of how those who featured got on over the last week.

Nikola Katic – Hajduk Split

Niko was named in the starting XI for the squad as they welcomed Velez to Poljud for a club friendly before the Croatian First Football League commences again.

The score ended 1-1 and the team will now prepare for the second half of the season before they travel to Stadion Šubićevac to face Sibenik in the HNL.

Stephen Kelly – Salford City

Stephen featured in Gary Bowyer’s starting XI on Saturday as they welcomed Colchester to the Peninsula Stadium in League Two.

Despite the 3-0 defeat, Kelly was able to get more minutes under his belt before being substituted off in the 46th minute.

The squad will now turn their attention to Tuesday evening where they will travel to Holker Street to face Barrow in the league campaign.

Christopher McKee – Linfield FC

Chris was a 57th-minute substitute for the Blues as they beat Glenavon 2-0 in the NIFL Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

The youngster made an immediate impact when he headed home his debut goal to double the lead for David Healy’s side in the 88th minute.

The squad will prepare for their next league match against Cliftonville on Tuesday evening at the Solitude Stadium.

Lewis Mayo - Partick Thistle

Lewis was once again involved for the full 90 minutes on Saturday afternoon for the Jags as they welcomed Airdrieonians to Firhill Stadium in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

It was a tough match for Ian McCall’s side, but the squad were able to come out on top after netting the only goal of the match to progress to the next round of the competition where they will face Dundee United.

Next up for Thistle is an away match against Arbroath at Gayfield Park on Saturday afternoon.

James Maxwell - Ayr United

James was named in Lee Bullen’s starting XI on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed St Mirren to Somerset Park in their fourth-round Scottish Cup tie.

The Rangers loanee played the first half before being substituted off, with the Honest Men unfortunately knocked out of the competition after a 2-0 defeat.

The squad will now prepare for their next league match against Hamilton on Saturday afternoon at the SuperSeal Stadium.

Josh McPake – Tranmere Rovers

Josh was named in Micky Mellon’s starting line-up at the weekend in their league match against Crawley Town.

The youngster had a strong impact on the game with two close chances to double the lead for his side before being subbed off after 75 minutes.

The squad will now turn their attention to Saturday afternoon when they will welcome league leaders, Forest Green to Prenton Park for a top of the table clash.

Ben Williamson – Raith Rovers

Ben was named in John McGlynn’s starting XI at the weekend as the Rovers travelled to Spain Park on Saturday as they faced Banks O’Dee in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

Williamson played the full 90 minutes in the 3 – 0 victory, with Rovers progressing through to the next round of the tournament where they will face Celtic.
