Latest Rangers Loan Review

RANGERS have a number of players from both the first-team and the Academy out on loan at present. Here’s our review of how those who were featured got on over the last week.

Nikola Katic – Hajduk Split

Niko was named in Valdas Dambrauskas’ starting XI on Friday evening as they welcomed Hrvatski Dragovoljac to the Stadion Poljud for their HNL fixture.

The Light Blue loanee played 29 minutes of the game before being substituted off, but it was a positive result for the home side as they collected three points in their 2-1 victory against Krešimir Sunara’s squad.

The team will now turn their attention to Sunday afternoon when they will travel to face Rijeka at the Stadion HNK Rijeka for their next league match.

Glenn Middleton – St Johnstone

Glenn was a 60th-minute substitution for Callum Davidson’s side on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed St Mirren to McDiarmid Park.

It was a challenging match for the Perth team after Stephen Robinson’s side netted an early second-half goal to take all three points.

The team will now turn their attention to Saturday as they travel to Almondvale Stadium to take on Livingston in their next Premiership match.

James Maxwell - Ayr United

James was again named in Lee Bullen’s starting XI on Friday evening as they welcomed Partick Thistle to Somerset Park for their final Championship fixture of the season.

The youngster played 85 minutes of the game where the Honest Men took all three points after defeating Ian McCall’s side 3-1 in front of the home fans. This victory secured Championship football for the Ayrshire side next season.

Lewis Mayo – Partick Thistle

Lewis was named in Thistle’s starting line-up on Friday night as Thistle travelled to Somerset Park to take on Ayr United in their final Championship match of the season.

Assistant manager Alan Archibald had to stand in for Ian McCall who was absent through illness.

Mayo played 45 minutes of the game before being subbed off at the start of the second half. It was a difficult match for the visitors after going 3-0 down after 60 minutes, however, Archibald’s side were able to close the deficit by one after netting a goal in the 81st minute to end the score line 3-1.

Thistle now focus their attention on Tuesday evening as they welcome Inverness to Firhill Stadium for their first quarter-final of the Premiership play-offs.

Juan Alegria – Partick Thistle

Juan was the third Rangers loanee on the pitch at Somerset Park after the youngster was a 66th-minute substitute for Thistle against Ayr United on Friday evening.

It was a challenging match for Thistle after the score ended in a 3-1defeat away from home, however, the squad will quickly turn their attention to Tuesday evening as they welcome Inverness to Firhill Stadium for their first quarter-final of the Premiership play-offs.

Ben Williamson – Raith Rovers

Ben was again named in John McGlynn’s starting line-up on Friday night in the squad’s final match of the Championship this season against Kilmarnock at Stark’s Park.

The youngster played 64 minutes of the game before being substituted off, where the Rovers picked up a point to end the season after the score ended in a 1-1 draw.

Josh McPake – Tranmere Rovers

Josh was an 81st-minute substitute for Micky Mellon’s side on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed Oldham Athletic to Prenton Park in their League Two match.

It was an important win for the squad as they defeated John Sheridan’s side 2-0 in this crucial home match.

The squad will now travel to Brisbane Road on Saturday afternoon to face Leyton Orient in their final league match of the season.

Christopher McKee – Linfield FC

Chris was named in David Healy’s starting XI on Saturday afternoon in a monumental day for the club after winning the Danske Bank Premiership Title for the fourth consecutive time.

The Blues welcomed Coleraine to Windsor Park in their final NIFL Play-off match of the season, and the youngster had a superb game after scoring the second goal of the match to beat Oran Kearney’s side 2-0. The Light Blue was able to lift the trophy in front of the fans alongside his fellow Ger loanee, Jake Hastie.
