LAURA Berry says she was pleased that her hard work on the training pitch over the last week paid off in this afternoon’s emphatic away victory over Hearts.
The teenage forward struck twice for the Gers as they triumphed 3-0 at Ainslie Park to make it three successive victories to open the campaign.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win, Berry said of her two finishes, both very different in nature: “The first thing [for my first goal] was to get the ball under control.
“I took the first touch, it came on my left, and I’ve been working on my left foot finishing during the week.
“I was delighted when I had the chance to do that in the game and it went in.
“My second goal? It’s one of the luckier ones. In my head, I just needed to keep it on target, and thankfully I’ve done that.
“I’m over the moon to score two goals in a game like this.
“Throughout the game, we were all excellent and worked together.
“We executed the game plan we came here to do, and it’s why we’ve came out and won the game.”
Once Berry struck the opener midway through the first half, it was one-way traffic as Bailley Collins soon doubled the side’s advantage.
It was also a second successive clean sheet for Shu Obha between the posts, who has impressed in her early weeks at the club.
Berry added: “Everyone had to do the defensive side today too. We were all excellent and done our jobs, and that’s what we need to do to win the game.
“Every player that has come in has played their part. Bailley [Collins] specifically, we played together at Motherwell, so we know each other.
“I’ve really enjoyed playing alongside her, and hopefully that continues.
“We’re going into every game with the same mentality as we want to win every game. Today was no different.
“We respect they’re the champions, but we know we can come here and beat any team, so we’re delighted to do that.
“Throughout the game, everyone put in the hard work. You can see that in the result.
“It’s a big result to beat Hearts by the score we did, and we’re buzzing. Hopefully we can continue that momentum into next week.”
