In the first of back-to-back meetings between the two team’s ahead of next weekend’s Sky Sports Cup final, striker Katie Wilkinson converted from 12-yards in stoppage time to fire the Gers to a 1-0 success and inflict a first defeat of the season on the SPWPL leaders.
Speaking to RangersTV after a massive three points, she reflected: “I am really proud of the group, today was as complete a performance as we've seen.
“The last-gasp winner makes it look super dramatic but I felt throughout the game we had lots of control, real good quality.
“We played like a team that we want to be this afternoon. I think we played under pressure, super brave on the ball.
“I just thought the perseverance in the group. The team that started the group had the privilege of doing that but the players that came off the bench gave us that extra level, energy and lift when we needed it most.
“That is where I am at, immensely proud of the group. It is three points at the end of the day; we probably felt if we had lost that one this afternoon that we could have found ourselves out of a title race.
“For us it was really important that we responded well after a tough week that we hadn't picked up a win, only point out of those six coming into today, so it was a much-needed win.”
The Head Coach was full of praise for the match winner after the final whistle, with the Gers back to within five points of the summit after she cooly dispatched her penalty to round off a challenging week with a win.
She continued: “You try and replicate pressure in a training environment. Obviously we have had the shootout earlier in the season against Celtic in the cup.
“There has been a few moments that we have been able to prepare ever so slightly for those moments but you never know in a day like today against a top goalkeeper but what we have got is a top striker our ranks and a top pro as well.
“I think she was outstanding in her performance today.
“Energy across the pitch was the difference for us, but ultimately that type of moment is really important that Katie is able to deal with that and she certainly did it.
“You can never doubt our application and our attitude, that has been there in abundance this season, with a group that has changed an awful lot.
“So much change in terms of the young players that have come through, the senior pros that we have got and the players that left in the summer there has been so much.
“I think the way that we have rallied at certain points and today felt like one of those days when we were a little bit down and everybody else is probably looking at us thinking that we were down and out.
“The response was great, I think Wednesday night was a tough one for us to go to Meadowbank, Oriam last Sunday, really tough and we weren't pleased with our performances.
“It is a bit different when you can credit the opposition and really feel like you've been turned over, but there was so many moment that we could look at ourselves.
“We did a fair bit of analysis this week and really drilled home the quality that we have got in the dressing room and it was important that we put all that together today.”
Rangers can now start preparing for next weekend’s final as they go in search of a fourth success in a row in the competition, with the former Scotland international feeling they can take confidence from today’s victory.
She added: “We'll look to be ready; we'll get the players back in tomorrow and the staff and we'll reset. We'll analyse this afternoon and look at the game plan certainly heading into next week.
“I am just really pleased that we can park today, we can enjoy the week and the build-up, the preparation and everything that comes with that because for some they will have experienced this before and others it will be their first taste of it.
“I think that is really important that we can manage to live in the moment with it, prepare properly and make sure we are ready because we'll need a performance like that if not even better.”
