Wednesday night proved a memorable one for the club as the Gers dug deep to overcome Slavia Praha in extra time, with goals arriving from defensive sources via captain Nicola Docherty and Academy graduate Eilidh Austin.
It set up a meeting in the final with Ajax, themselves winners over Danish side Brondby in the corresponding last-four clash, with a place in the final round of Champions League qualifying up for grabs.
Speaking to the media to preview the showdown at Petershill, Crichton said: “I thought the players were excellent the other night in terms of their roles and responsibilities.
“We probably took that 10 or 15 minute period to grow into the game and get a gauge for our opponent, and tomorrow will be similar in that sense.
“Ajax are more predictable in that they’re a team that’s known worldwide for their style and philosophy. We have already done a fair bit of homework on them and are ready for that type of test.
“There are a number of players unavailable in the group, which means there are a fair number of players who will need to go through the two games in terms of the physical output.
“I think we showed the other night the team that we can be and want to be, in terms of the energy, quality and enthusiasm.
“The players enjoyed the game and the challenge. Pre-season can never really prepare you for that type of moment, but I felt the way we handled the game and really got after it was super aggressive for this stage of the season.
“We need to maintain that going into tomorrow and use it as motivation."
Wednesday’s victory means that, regardless of the result tomorrow evening, Crichton’s side are guaranteed a UEFA Europa Cup qualifier.
Although the head coach is pleased that her side’s European journey will continue no matter what, she has challenged her players to make that extra step towards qualification for Europe’s ultimate prize.
She added: “It was perfect that we won the first game against Slavia, the one that we had been able to plan and prepare for, and it guarantees European football, which was everything we were striving towards and makes our jobs much better.
“But there is still a carrot being dangled tomorrow in the sense that we can go and take that extra step and progress in the manner we wanted to do in the first instance. It should be a really exciting game against Ajax.
“Of course, we want to be associated with European football, but the reality is that over the last number of years it hasn’t been a consistent fixture in the calendar.
“That consistency in qualification allows you to recruit in a different type of market and shines a different light on the club.
“We’re a club that does amazing things in terms of player development and a team that wants to win.
“We fell short on that last season, but the European football element was the silver lining.
"We need to use that as a catalyst to grow and build on, and certainly during my time at the club I want to lay the foundations for that and be a force in European football."
