Second-half goals from Tony Weston and Robbie Ure secured all three points in the young Gers debut match.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game King said: “When we were coming into the game we knew it would be tough and we knew that they would be direct but I think the team handled it very well and when they did try and play through us we managed to match that as well.
“The message at half-time was just to calm down because we would eventually get the chances to score and they came along later in the game.
“It is always good to stay patient because there's no point in getting frustrated with ourselves because it is only going to impact us, it isn't really going to impact the other team so we just need to be patient.”
King feels the squad can take confidence from the clean sheet as they head straight into their next fixture against Spartans on Tuesday evening.
He continued: “It is always good to keep a clean sheet especially against senior teams and if we keep that going for the rest of the season I'm sure we will be alright.
“I've just been trying to help the lads that haven't experienced this side of the men's game but I am still learning myself so I am just trying to take every game as it comes.
“It should be a good test on Tuesday obviously with a different surface as well so we just need to make sure we are up for it like we were today.”
