The B team assistant boss reflected on Wednesday night’s cup tie against Alloa in the SPFL Trust Trophy and believes it will have a positive impact on confidence leading into the squad’s next Lowland League fixture.
Gilmour spoke exclusively with RangersTV ahead of the squad’s weekend fixture against Berwick Rangers at Dumbarton Stadium and outlined his expectations of the game.
He said: “I thought we were terrific in the last game against Berwick Rangers, we had some great play and scored some good goals.
“There will be a reaction from Berwick straight away, they’ve had a good look at us, and we have had a good look at them. It’s a game in which we will need to be properly prepared for.” Gilmour followed up by reflecting on Wednesday night’s 3 -2 victory over Alloa in the SPFL Trust Trophy as the team progress into the next round.
He added: “The obvious positive is getting to the next round of the competition. We’re going against senior teams that are higher up in the divisions – that’s a real positive.
“The second part is that we get a second chance to go and play against a League One side and test ourselves against a team that will have full experience and quality within their team.
“You want to go and test yourself against the best players that you possibly can.

"To learn and see how they do things especially with our lads being younger, you also want to go test yourself to see what level you are at as well.”
The assistant coach continued by reiterating that the level of competition within the team is essential in driving players to be the best that they can be.
“The competition within the squad will never go away, especially when you are at a club like Rangers. It’s something that every player must rise and go on to be able and deal with that competition and come out on top.”
