The Gers returned to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend in their triumph over St Johnstone, as they target continuing their positive run in front of their home supporters when they host Aberdeen at Ibrox tomorrow evening.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the game, he said: “The more difficult the times get the stronger you should become as a team.
“That has always been the case since I have been at this club.
“The tougher the times then the closer you should be getting.
“Ultimately we find ourselves a few points behind top spot which is not acceptable and something that we are really not happy with, but as a collective we are really looking forward and trying to close that gap.
“The atmosphere amongst the boys is ok, I am not going to say we are delighted we are not pleased with the position we find ourselves in the league.
“We are content with the victory the other day against St Johnstone, a game that we were looking to win and we managed to do that in a comfortable fashion.
“We are ok, desperate to be higher up in the league, obviously we are not there just now but it is a huge game tomorrow night.
“One of the biggest games for us and one we are really looking forward too.”
The shot stopper is anticipating another fantastic atmosphere in front of their home faithful under the lights, as they look to rack up what would be a 11th win out of 12 games in an unbeaten record at Ibrox this campaign so far.
He continued: “The atmosphere? They always bring it; we are well aware that Aberdeen is a huge fixture for the club.
“We expect that atmosphere tomorrow night, a really difficult game.
“The tougher the games, we usually do well, so hopefully that is the same tomorrow night.
“They have not been on a great run but they are still fourth in the league, they are still in a really good position.
“They have got some brilliant individual players and some real good pace at the top end of the pitch as well.
“We are definitely preparing for the best version of Aberdeen and our supporters at home under the lights it is always a special night, so it is a night we are really looking forward too.
“Obviously Aberdeen beat us at Pittodrie up there, they never even lost a game until mid-November.
“I think it was only about a month and a half ago was their first defeat.
“We are playing against a really good team with a really good manager.
“Obviously they have not had the results maybe they have been looking for but they might have a bit of momentum, Ross [Doohan] made a great penalty save in the last minute against Hearts at the weekend.
“They beat us in the previous fixture so we need to be on it and it is a game that ultimately we need to be at our absolute best to take maximum points from.”
The 28-year-old says the squad are determined to go on a winning run of results and performances having been up and down with their displays in recent outings, as they target a positive second half of the campaign moving forward.
He added: “I think a lot of the boys in the changing room are aware that we must-win.
“It doesn't matter the moment or anything like that you must-win.
“People don't care about the story, ultimately they only care when you win.
“I say that to the boys all the time, they are not daft, they know we need to win.
“We have got a changing room of really good guys who are absolutely desperate to win and are hurting massively when we don't.
“I am well aware my whole life being here we can never draw or lose and when you do it is the end of the world.
“That has not been a surprise to me, but the boys are desperate to win, we can't get away from that.”
