The young Gers went ahead twice at Barrowfield before being pegged back by the hosts, but they displayed resilience in abundance to find a stoppage-time winner when Chris Condy's cross was turned into his own net by Celtic defender Samuel Sedwell at the far post.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Ross said: "I'm really proud. These games are never the prettiest in terms of tactical detail, and it never goes the way you plan out.
"I said to the boys before the game that the best thing about being at this club is playing in these games.
"You need to enjoy it, rise to the occasion, and it's even better when you win.
"Our objective was to win, and we said to the lads to imagine the feeling after the game when you achieve that. I'm buzzing for the boys."
A share of the spoils looked destined when the home side levelled with a little over five minutes remaining, ratcheting up the intensity in search of a winner.
But it was Rangers who had the late sting in the tail, which was just reward for the quality and determination in their play throughout the evening.
Ross added: "We knew there would be moments in the game where we'd have to sit in and suffer a little bit, and I think we've done that.
"Credit to the boys because I felt we defended our penalty box very well.
"I thought Rydnn [McGuire] was outstanding; without him tonight, it could have been a different game.
"The first goal was outstanding. I just watched it back there. It's probably the one moment in the game where our tactical plan worked, so to see that come off was really pleasing.
"The other moments are goals when we needed them. The winning goal speaks for itself, but even the second goal, the lads took on some good information at half-time, and we saw more of what we wanted.
"Zeb [Lawson] has his moment where he sets up the goal, and it's all these factors which help win us the game."
