In a goalless first half, the young Gers came out of the traps quickly after the restart to race into a two-goal lead and go on to seal three points in their first group match of the CAS Elite League Cup.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game to reflect on the result, he commented: “I thought we started the game ok. Probably things that we could do a little bit better; however, I thought the second half, the lads were really good.
“I really enjoyed the second half, and I thought that they deserved their win in the end.
"First half we did ok, but we turned down too many opportunities when we played through and when we did play through, actually staying in the opposition half.
“Maybe trying to work more opportunities into the final third, and I thought the game became a little bit too transitional. It was a bit of a basketball game for elements of the first half.
“I feel like we fixed a couple of things tactically at half-time, and the boys executed it well in the second half.
“When you score, naturally, the players start to relax a little bit.
“It helped, but there are things from an individual point of view that we have been asking certain players to do, and the first goal is a great example of that.
“For me, from a coach’s point of view, I am really happy with that.”
Having dropped out of the Scottish Youth Cup last month, the Gers will be eager to have a long run in the newly formed competition this season, with Ross hopeful of that, having claimed victory in their first of six group games to come.
He continued: “Every game we play to win and to put on performances like that, I think if the boys play like that they will get better.
“We have obviously had a bit of a disappointment in the past couple of weeks getting knocked out of the Youth Cup, so this is definitely a competition that we want to go and win as well as do really well in the league.”
Having now reached a break in the campaign and played their final fixture of the calendar year, the assistant assessed the first half of the season and how the Rangers Academy are placed heading into 2026.
He added: “It has been like any season when you work with young players, there have been a few ups, there have been downs.
“We have had some really good performances this year and really good results, but I think if you actually look at it from an Academy as a whole, we have got boys out on loan who are doing well.
“We have got players that are training with the first-team, we have had some really good performances from the Under-19's, we have got Under-17's making up a lot of the squad the past couple of weeks.
“As I have said in previous weeks, I think it is really positive and exciting. I am really looking forward to the break, a little break, but also what the new year looks like as well.”
