LIZZIE ARNOT reckons she had a case of deja vu with her sensational goal in the 4-1 win over Glasgow City.
The winger produced a stunning strike, similar to her effort in the Sky Sports Cup final win over Hibs last season, to put Jo Potter’s league leaders back in front after Lauren Davidson had cancelled out Rio Hardy’s penalty.
With 54 minutes on the clock, Arnot collected Hardy’s cutback before cutting in from the left flank and letting fly, with her 25-yard strike nestling in the top corner.
She always felt her shot had a chance, but admits it was like time froze as she waited for the net to ripple.
Speaking to RangersTV, she said: “I think as a winger it is important to be able to go outside and inside.
“I received the ball and my first thought was to drive inside and have a shot. It is nice when it goes into the top corner.
“You look up and see it is travelling and it is like time stops until it hits the back of the net.
“It is a nice feeling when it goes in.”
Further goals from Chelsea Cornet and Mia McAulay sealed a valuable three points for the Gers to keep them top of the SWPL.
Arnot thinks it was an important victory ahead of games with Hearts and Partick Thistle later this week.
She added: “I am really happy we got the win coming into a big week where we have three games.
“It was important that we started off strong, so credit to the team as we did well and we deserved the win.
“As a team we want to get the ball down and play and to score four goals is really important for us.
“We need to take that into the next games coming.
“We have been working hard in training and our fitness is showing and in the final minutes we are still going for goals.
“Players come on who are fresh and they are contributing to the win as well.
“Jo told us to take one game at a time and look after ourselves.
“Hearts are going well and they have threats, but we will recover and go with the same fight and determination on Wednesday.”
