Lizzie Arnot: Squad Must Build Momentum

LIZZIE Arnot says that the Rangers squad must ‘build momentum’ as they prepare to face Celtic at the Excelsior Stadium in the Scottish Women’s Cup.

The Light Blue reflected on Wednesday evening’s performance against Hamilton in the Park's Motor Group SWPL 1 and recognised the importance of recovering properly during their busy fixture run.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their cup game, she said: “It was really good; I think we took momentum from Sunday and we’re lucky now that we’ve got the squad that we can rotate and use everyone. I think the players who came in really stepped up and that’s why we’re in the position that we are and credit to everyone, I think we can be pleased with everyone’s performance.

“It’s just trying to build that momentum and I think that we can take confidence, but we just need to build on that and use everyone in the squad for another positive performance.

“It’s [recovery] really important, I think that we’re really lucky here that we’ve got everything that we need, and all the staff do everything that they can to make sure that we get all the right recovery essentials. Even in training, they’re making sure that we’re doing the right things and covering the right basis so that we’re ready for Sunday.”

Arnot expressed her excitement to join the Scotland squad again after receiving a call up to compete in the 2022 Pinatar Cup.

“It was good, I’ve been in and out of the squad recently so to get a call up was pleasing. It’s always a goal for me and I think that it was important for me to keep my head down and keep working hard, to get that call up again was good and I just need to go take that opportunity now and enjoy it.”

The Light Blue looked ahead to this weekend’s game against Celtic in the Scottish Women’s Cup on Sunday and outlined the challenges the squad anticipate to face during the match.

She added: “It’s going to be tough like every time that we play Celtic, it’s always a real physical battle as well. We know the strengths that they can bring, it’s obviously a big game and there’s no denying that. We just need to go in level-headed and try and bring the same performance.

“We can look back on when we’ve played them before and try and learn from what has and hasn’t gone well to take confidence from those things as well. Every game is also different in a sense, we just need to go with all the right preparations done and hopefully get a good result.”
