Lovelace Looks To Push On

ZAK LOVELACE expressed his delight after making his first start since October.

The youngster featured for 45 minutes for the Rangers B team in their 1-1 draw with Carlisle United this afternoon after making his long awaited return from injury in recent weeks.

The forward, who was last named in a starting lineup in the first team match against St Mirren five months ago says it felt good to be back out on the pitch from the beginning again as he looks to continue building up his minutes in the coming weeks.

He said: “I was quite happy. David told me before that I was possibly going to start, so I just had to get myself mentality ready to start again and kind of just push on to get back to where I was before.”

“How are you feeling with the injury after being back? It feels good, there is not really anything to cause a problem with it. I am just trying to get myself where I used to be, get myself to my sharpest.

“There is a couple of things that I need to iron out, however I will get them back soon hopefully.

“Hopefully next time I will get 60 [minutes], I think my next game is against Dundee so hopefully I will get 60 against them and hopefully push on to get 90 the game after.”

The young Englishman commented on the match itself having featured for the first half before the two teams shared the spoils in the second, with Thompson Ishaka cancelling out Carlisle’s opener from the penalty spot.

He continued: “It was a good game; they were a good team and they pushed us to our limits.

“They have a couple players that are experienced so it helps the players to gain confidence to go against higher oppositions.”

The 18-year-old spoke on the team testing themselves against first team opposition once again this season and he feels his side benefitted from having several senior players involved in the squad, with Robby McCrorie, Leon King, Leon Balogun, Ben Davies and Nico Raskin all starting the match.

He added: “There is players that have played in different levels of different leagues and we also had a couple of first team players down with us which helped everyone with our professionalism and with our progress.

“It just helps us around and in the Training Centre itself as well having players around us, it pushes us on to be like them.

“They are experienced players so they bring something down to us and it kind of helps us to push on.”
