Lyall Cameron Delighted To Score First Rangers Goal

LYALL Cameron was delighted to get off the mark with his first Rangers goal this evening but knows there’s a lot for the squad to improve on as they progressed to the UEFA Champions League play-off round.

Gers were defeated 2-1 in the second-leg against Viktoria Plzen but won the tie 4-2 on aggregate to set-up a meeting with Club Brugge for a place in Europe’s elite competition.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “It wasn’t our best performance as a team, we know we can be a lot better than that, but at the end of the day we are through and that is all that matters at this stage of the competition.

"We know we need to be a lot better than that going forward but as a group we have really bought into what the manager wants to do, we really like the way he wants to play, and we are looking forward to being able to implement it as well as he wants. We are still building but I think we'll get there in the end.”

Rangers went into the game with a 3-0 lead from last week’s first-leg at Ibrox, and Cameron was frustrated the squad couldn’t make the most of some of their attacking opportunities this evening.

He continued: ”It is always hard going into a game when we are that far ahead, you need to get yourself going again and I think we probably didn't do that as well as we should've in the first-half.

“I don't think we were up to the races really, the whole team, they started quite quickly so we had to go against that and they were pressing us really high but if we took a lot more care we could've really hurt them because there was a lot more spaces and we didn't really exploit them too well.”

On how he’s finding his first experience of European competition at club level, the midfielder added: “It is a lot different than playing at home in the league, everyone comes out and plays a lot more aggressively against you, but it has been really good.

“We have played Club Brugge already this season in a friendly. It is not going to be an easy game, but we just need to go out and do what we want to do and hopefully it is good enough to get through.

“It is a massive opportunity, we have put ourselves in a really good position, two games to get into the Champions League is a great opportunity for us so we are delighted but we need to get through Alloa on Saturday first and then we can look forward to the next game.”
