Malky Thomson Expecting A Difficult Challenge

MALKY Thomson hopes Rangers can ‘pick up where they left off’ as the Park’s Motor Group SWPL restarts this weekend.

Gers take on Hearts in Edinburgh in their first league match after the winter break and Thomson is expecting a difficult challenge in the capital.

Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the match, he said: “We have got to pick up where we left off, and that started when we came back after the winter break.

“It has all fallen back into place which culminates in the training sessions being of a high level and hopefully we take that onto the pitch.

“It will be a tough game, they caused us a lot of problems the last time, mainly with their organisation. They had a really good structure and shape and it was difficult for us to break them down.

“Every single week we are going to face different challenges whether teams press us or sit off us and it is something we are ready for and we prepare for in training.”

Thomson feels last weekend’s cup match was important to get the players back on the pitch ahead of the restart of the league.

He continued: “I think first and foremost the break we got was great to actually see them come back really fresh mentally, so it was more about putting the reins on them and making sure we didn't peak too soon when we came back in.

“We have got fantastic staff here in the building so we are really controlling and keeping a handle on the distances covered in any one session and making sure the girls are best prepared when it comes to the games.

“It was crucial to have a week of training that you are gearing towards something and it was good in a sense that we had the focus of the Stenhousemuir game.”
