Winning their game in hand 5-1 away to Dundee United, they now sit top of the standings with a vastly superior goal difference and one match to go.
Speaking to RangersTV at Foundation Park, he reflected on the win: “I think the main factor was the focus that we have got.
“We knew that going into the last three or four games there we had to win.
“It was irrelevant how we got there, irrelevant whether we win 1-0 or five like we did tonight, all credit to the players.”
The Head Coach praised the first-half showing in particular from his side, with three goals seeing them in a comfortable position at the interval before several players made an impact from the bench to secure the victory in their second-to-last outing of the season.
He continued: “The one thing that we spoke about at half-time was the real enthusiasm that the team had.
“Not just one or two individuals, but we had the vast majority of the boys really challenging and out of possession and hungry to get the ball back, which I think was key tonight.
“It is important because we don't know how it is going to pan out and what the team selection is going to be for the last game.
“The last game is a real important one now we have got to win that game, and hopefully we can win the league.”
The win this evening now sets up a showdown in Paisley come Friday against St Mirren, with destiny to secure the title in the Light Blues’ hands due to their healthy goal difference, with Thomson proud of the strides the team have taken this campaign to date.
He added: “I think the message at Rangers is you've got to win, and we know that.
“From a young age, part of our development of those players is to become winners and to take a real pride in winning leagues.
“It is not just done in the likes of tonight or the game against Celtic, it is done over the course of the whole league campaign.
“Most of that team tonight and for the past few games has been Under-17 players.
“The future is good for Rangers in terms of younger players coming in; most of those players will be able to play that for another two years.
“Hopefully they don't, hopefully they go out on loan and get into the first-team, that is the goal for them.
“I am absolutely delighted with them; we set them a task to win the league, and they have got a very important game to focus on come Friday.”
