Malky Thomson Focus Is On Team Always Improving

MALKY THOMSON says Rangers’ focus has always been to improve as they prepare for the restart of the Scottish Women’s Premier League on Sunday.

Gers head for the Capital to play Hearts in their first competitive game in three months and Thomson hopes his side can take all the work from training onto the pitch.

Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “It has really been a positive to get back given the hurdles that every team has had to endure so we are really looking forward to getting started again.

“We have never had a lack of enthusiasm in anything we have done, even the girls having to train in isolation there's always been a focus to improve individually but also as a team.

“We can obviously only play eleven players so there’s a real competition and people are desperate to play.

“Everything they have done in training to date they have got to put it on the park on a matchday. We prepare all week for the game and it is about when you cross that white line are you in a position physically and mentally to approach the game in the right manner.

“We have done a lot on the values and the culture of what Rangers Football Club is about given the fact it's the girls first season as full-time professional players. It allowed us an opportunity to drill down into specific areas about what it is and what it means.”

Rangers opened the SWPL season at home to Hearts back in October picking up the three points with a 5-1 victory.

Thomson is expecting a different challenge in Edinburgh this weekend, he continued: “I think they'll have learned a bit about us, we have certainly learned a bit about all of the teams in the league.

“It will probably be a different challenge but it will not really make any difference to our style of play and what we are going to be about so we are looking forward to the game come Sunday.”

The Gers boss has a strong squad to choose from this weekend and provided an update on the injured Demi Vance and Megan Bell.

He added: “For some the lockdown was a hurdle and a problem but for others it gave them time to recover.

“We have a full squad barring Demi Vance and Megan Bell but both are in a good place.

“Demi was given a good assessment from our doctor and Megan will be probably another 8 weeks as she continues her recovery.”
