The young Gers begin their league phase on Tuesday evening with a trip to face Gala Fairydean Rovers.
It comes amid the start of the side’s CAS Elite League campaign, where they recorded victory over Dundee United on the opening matchday before playing out a 3-3 draw with Hearts at home earlier this week.
Speaking to the official Rangers website, the Under-19s head coach said of the competition: “There’s always a challenge when you pull on a Rangers strip as you’re expected to win.
“In terms of the KDM Evolution Trophy, we’re playing against guys who have played at a level. And that’s the test.
“The rules dictate that we can bring all our players back [for the competition].
"First and foremost we’re here to serve the first-team, and we’ll look at our squad to see who’s available.
“We’ll endeavour to put our strongest team out there. It’ll not just be down to age as to who’s strongest; it will be the boys who are performing and hungry.
“If you look at our team just now, we have Kyle Glasgow out on loan, and he’s mixing in a dressing room environment with senior professionals.
“It’s going to be an eye-opener for players like him, and it’s important in the sense that he’s playing in a team where the results really matter.
“That reality is great in his preparations coming back to Rangers, and he’ll have an understanding of it.”
Rangers head into the opening fixture following a dramatic comeback against the Edinburgh side on Tuesday afternoon.
They found themselves two goals down early in the opening period before Jaedon Doncker struck a third for Hearts shortly after the interval.
But their powers of recovery were abundant as goals from Conor Owen, Cameron Fernie and James Reid claimed a point for the Gers.
Thomson said of his side’s performance: “We had to go and match the fact that Hearts came out and pressed us relentlessly, and we never handled the ball at the start of the game.
“When a team goes that way, you have two choices, either you go long and turn them to take the pressure off yourself, or you handle the ball, which we have done in previous games.
“But we never did that, and we gave ourselves an absolute mountain to climb going 2-0 down at half-time.
“If they go to the professional level and lose two goals in the way that they did, you’re not coming back from it.
“Even in the second half, losing the third goal – and all goals were preventable – but I need to give them credit that they stuck together as a team and dominated the second half and possibly could’ve come away with a win.
“We have good footballers in the group, but sometimes their choice with the pass or to hold onto the ball has an effect on the team.
“We were holding onto the ball too long in the first half and allowing them to get tackles on us.
“In the second half the ball travelled around the ground quicker, and we got into areas we could dominate and create chances to score.
"It was good to see both central defenders on the scoresheet from set-pieces.”
