It was a strong display from the Light Blues as goals from Lizzie Arnot, Jane Ross and an own goal sealed the three points.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Thomson said: “Before the game we asked the players a simple question and that was to turn up and really put their heart and soul into the game and I think they did that.
“We have said before in previous games where we have so much dominance on the game and possession it is important that we can convert the chances and I thought we did that which was great.
“Lizzie [Arnot] is capable of that performance, she is so difficult to play against in the fact that she can play wide and play as a 10. The players round about her really gave her great support, especially Demi Vance in that left-side behind her.
“I thought Chelsea had a great first-half and unfortunately she took a knock but I think what was really important was the team performance and as long as we can maintain those standards and be together it is really important.”
Rangers were reduced to 10 players with 20 minutes of the game remaining and Thomson was pleased with the attitude of the squad to see out the match.
He continued: “There's a real belief and a relentless attitude, we quickly went to two banks of four and it is great that the way we train allows us to either press or sit off the game and be difficult to break down.
“We now look to Hamilton on Wednesday and again every game is massively important. We don't look at any game being special, there's a lot still to play for and there are a lot of points there to still obtain.”
