The Gers boss and his side are preparing for their second league match of the season as they travel along the M8 to take on Spartans in Edinburgh this weekend.
With the league getting into full swing in the coming weeks, he says it is up to the players to train at a level to push into the starting eleven.
Speaking to RangersTV he said: “I think we know that the games that are coming up will be thick and fast, and it will take everybody in the squad to contribute to ensure that we are able to compete.

“It is up to the players to train at a level that they are pushing for contention to get into the first eleven.
“We have one or two niggles but you are going to get that, that's why we have the squad we have.

“There are players that are able to come if someone has an injury so we can adapt and adjust.”
With a break from the league last weekend due to international games, Thomson is hoping the run of fixtures can allow the squad to build momentum.
He continued: “There was no game for us last Sunday and unfortunately due to the Covid situation we were unable to get ourselves down south which we would've liked to have done to pick up some valuable minutes.

“I think most of the teams in the league are organised and very well set out and they want to compete.
“Every game that Rangers play is like a cup final so there's pressure of wearing that jersey week in week out no matter who you play but again we will go about it in the manner we always do.
“We'll have our plan put in place and we'll stick to it and we'll go out and compete.”
