The Gers picked up a point away to the reigning champions, but Thomson feels the squad didn’t reach their full potential on the pitch at Petershill.
Speaking to RangersTV at full time, he said: “I think we can play better that's for sure and I think the girls know that and we never really dominated any real period of the game where we had real good possession.
“We still created a lot of really good chances which we probably should have scored but all in all a point. It is a tight, tight pitch here, our game is based on keeping possession and I don't think we played particularly well and I think the girls know that.
“We have got the international break now but we will dissect that game and how we are going to dominate teams in possession which we didn't do today.”
The Light Blues faced tough opposition in Glasgow City and Thomson felt his squad must learn to be better in dealing with that challenge.
He continued: “We never actually worked the ball out wide quick enough but I think it all comes down to quality. I think we have set the bar so high and some of the games we go in and we have total domination and the girls settle into their rhythm.
“I don’t think we did today, but Glasgow City pressed us and hounded us and we have got to be better about playing around them and through them.”
