Malky Thomson: We Must Take The Positives

MALKY THOMSON says Rangers must take the positives from this evening’s friendly against Manchester United.

The Light Blues lost 5-0 to the FA Women’s Super League side at Rangers Training Centre as they prepared for the start of the Scottish Women’s Premier League season.

Despite the scoreline, Thomson says there is plenty the squad can learn from the match. Speaking to RangersTV at full-time: “It was a real positive test and it is now how we process it and how we take the coaching points back into our season and into what we are doing but that was a quality Manchester United side that we played against there and it was really tough throughout the 90 minutes.

“I think Manchester United’s speed of play first and foremost and the way they are a real possession-based team, they are very patient and they handle the ball is what we can learn from.

“When they get into certain areas they don't half go at you so again our shape was good but at the end of the day they were too powerful for us and technically and physically what they were world apart.”

With matches against Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton in pre-season Thomson feels it has been a successful pre-season for the squad.

He continued: “That is what we want, we want our team to understand that there are different levels in the game.

“It's all very well watching on the TV but for the girls to experience that first-hand and be subjected to it that is what we are after. It has been a fantastic pre-season we have had and we just take it into the upcoming cup games.”
