The Gers have jetted off for a warm weather training camp as they step up their preparations for the new season, with opportunities afforded to several Academy players to catch the eye of the first-team coaching staff.
Back in Glasgow, meanwhile, a youthful B Team squad kicked off their pre-season preparations with an emphatic 6-1 triumph over Blackpool Under-21s.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win, Thomson commented: "First and foremost, it's fantastic for the boys themselves [over in the Netherlands].
"But what it does for the whole group is that it shows the manager is more than happy to take young players and give them an opportunity.
"Youth always brings energy. The boys know that if they put in the work during the week and turn up with that enthusiasm and desire then they'll get their reward at the end of the week to play in the games.
"They need to continue doing that and bring it into this season.
"They're playing football because they love the game. They all have aspirations to play for Rangers, and they won't all do that which we understand, but they know it's an achievable goal if they put the hard work in."
It was six of the best for Gers B this afternoon as goals from Callum Burnside, Cameron Bell, Josh Gentles, Connor Allan, Calum Adamson and Zander Hutton powered the home side to victory in a contest played across three 30-minute periods.
Opportunity continues to knock for several 2007-born players still eligible to play Under-18s football, and Thomson believes the players' hunger and desire is infectious.
He added: "They all got a valuable 60 minutes. We're building their minutes slowly but surely.
"Every player got a minimum of an hour to play, and we've also introduced some of the younger players into the fold.
"I think it's key, because if you don't have energy at this stage of the season then what are you going to be like at the end of the season?
"The pre-season that we've had to date has been really good; it's been well-planned and thought out.
"I think the key to that is that the younger players have had opportunities, none more so than the boys who played today, but we've also got a few bodies over in the Netherlands with the first-team.
"They certainly proved today that they can do that with the goals that they got."
