Manager Happy To Mark Ibrox Return With A Win

PHILIPPE CLEMENT was happy to mark his team’s return to Ibrox with victory as Rangers booked their place in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals this evening.

The Light Blues were back on home soil for the first time this season as they took another step towards defending the trophy through a Cyriel Dessers double either side of a James Tavernier penalty to overcome Dundee 3-0.

Speaking to RangersTV after the match, the manager said: “It was well deserved and we got what we wanted, qualification but also in a good way with good football.

“I am happy to be back at Ibrox, we missed that so much and happy to give the fans what they got today.

“That is what they want and you hear it after the game, that is super important for all of us, staff, players, everybody and we need to continue in this way.

“It is just the start with a lot of new faces and a lot of new players but it was important to have a really good first experience of Ibrox for them.

“Of course it is always important to make this second goal and the third to kill the belief but we could have scored the second one in the first half.

“We had enough chances to do that.”

The Belgian spoke of his new players taking in their new surroundings for the first time, as he wants the team to use the energy from the crowd to keep building for what’s to come.

He continued: “Everybody was hungry, everybody had the desire.

“It is a good way to step in, into the club in this way that they feel how much energy they can get out of the stands if they perform well.

“It will create a lot of confidence and it now to continue building and working on all the things we can do better, because there are still a lot of things to do with this young squad with a lot of new players.

“I am hungry for the future and to work hard with them to make the story better and better.”

The boss spoke of the importance of keeping their opponents out as the Gers kept a second clean sheet in a row, as they now turn their attentions to the start of their Europa League campaign on Thursday night.

He added: “It is important to keep the clean sheet and of course Jack is also important in that way.

“Perfect evening, we could have scored more goals, we are going to work on that and it is now getting our focus back to the Europa League and that big game in Malmo.”
