The new Sporting Director started his role at the start of November and is in daily contact with the Rangers manager – even when they are not in the same city.
Wilson praised Gerrard’s energy towards his position and said he sought a meeting with the former Liverpool captain before agreeing to take the job at Ibrox.
Speaking to RangersTV Wilson said: “We get on well, before I accepted the job it was really important to me that I met Steven.
“This wasn’t going to work for me if there was a manager that I didn’t think I could work with and it wouldn’t have worked for Steven if there was a Sporting Director that he didn’t think he could work with.
“Personality is important and I think we get on well, obviously relationships take a lot of time to form and we are not going to be best mates after a couple of weeks.
“First and foremost we speak every day, if we are both here then it is face to face, we are at breakfast and lunch together and chatting regarding whatever it is that we are working on together.
“His communication is strong and if we are not together we are normally on the text or the phone all the time. He is good to work with, he is really open, he has a similar communication style to myself in that we both like to talk.
“We also have some excellent people here working with and around Steven and that is what I have found across the club as well.
“We have a lot of really good people here and hopefully within my leadership area we can continue to have even more excellent people with us.”
