The Ibrox gaffer, who is welcoming a number of international players back into his fold this weekend, has overseen six clean sheets from six Scottish Premiership games so far this campaign.
A seventh against Dundee United on Saturday would set a new record for top-flight football in this country at the beginning of a season, though Gerrard, naturally, insists the result this weekend is all-important – no matter how it is achieved.
He did take time, however, to explain the super form at the back, saying: "Individuals have been doing their jobs and have taken responsibility when they are out there on the pitch.
"Obviously, we have had a lot of preparation time, which is unusual. Normally, for us, coming back into a pre-season, we are straight into European games, and then players need to recover from that which takes away valuable training time.
"So to actually have five or six weeks to really drill the team in-terms of our shape, our distances and where we need to be, and to create different scenarios for them out of possession and from a defensive point of view, it has been really valuable.
"I think that has shown in our performances, but it is very important to make it clear, it is about winning games - if we can keep clean sheets, fantastic, and that is always a bonus.
"But for me as a manager, it is results that we want. If clean sheets come alongside that, then fantastic."

New signing began the campaign next to ever-present, before injury meant he gave way for the returning Filip Helander, who missed the second half of last season with injury.
The manager continued: "We missed Fil from January onwards. He missed three to three and a half months, and his experience and his leadership, and the way he defends and what he is like for the team in-terms of his voice, he was certainly missed.
"We have benefited from having him available in the early stages of this season.
"Leon has come in and really taken the challenge to Connor, Fil and to George [Edmundson], and said, 'I am here to play.'
"So the competition for places is really fierce at centre-back. I think they will all play over the course of the season as I have full trust in them all.
"I think what we found last year is we overused Connor Goldson - we got an injury to Fil and then we had the huge setback with Katic early in pre-season.
"We need four centre-backs all fit and all available. Leon is one which we are not sure if he can churn out the games like Goldson, so you will see in my selections from time to time, even on the back of a clean sheet or a good performance that we make a change in that area as we have to manage them from an individual point of view as well."
All four of those centre-backs, plus goalkeepers Allan McGregor and full-backs James Tavernier and Borna Barisic are leaders in their own right.
Having so many of them in the one area is fantastic for Gerrard, who added: "It is a good place to be in. I do think when I look at the squad now and obviously with four or five weeks left of the window, I am really content - I think we are complete in those areas, obviously injury aside.
"I do feel like I have got two really good players in each position - we have got a fantastic 'keeper who pushes the number ones in Andy Firth.
"The young kid [Nathan Patterson] is pushing Tav, and Calvin [Bassey] is pushing Borna.
"As I have said before, the four centre-backs are all good enough to play. So I am really, really happy with what I have got from a back-five position point of view."
