The Light Blues manager was delighted with what his players gave them once again as first-half goals from James Tavernier and Connor Goldson either side of a home leveller saw the three points head back down the A90 tonight.
The manager told RangersTV: "We were superb, but in a different way. The weather is changing and pitches are changing, and this is a tough place to come.
"You have to find a different way and we showed a real resolve today and a real resilience. We showed desire, commitment, character and we deserved the three points over the course of the game.
"We created the most chances, they couldn't get out of their half in the second 45, and once we ironed a few issues out at half-time in-terms of stopping crosses and making the right decisions, we were totally fine and comfortable.
"We worked ever-so hard to get that third goal. We were a little bit unlucky at times and I believe we should have had a penalty - I have seen that back and there is a lot of grabbing going on.
"If we get the third goal, we can obviously relax and breathe a little bit, but it is just about keeping that focus and making sure we get over the line.
"In-terms of game management, I thought bringing Cedric Itten and Bongani Zungu into the game really helped us control the final part of the game.
"And look, I can't ask for any more from these players. We park the league up for a week now and the challenge is to get them rested and ready for a big quarter-final match on Wednesday."
James Tavernier’s 30-yard free-kick to open the scoring was quite incredible – and moved him onto 17 goals for the season.
That matches his own club record for goals by a Rangers defender in a single season, and again, Gerrard sung the praises of his outstanding captain.
"It's just 'wow' in-terms of goals - that is the only word to sum it up,” Gerrard continued. “It is a world-class execution from the free-kick - it doesn't matter who you are, or who you are playing for, if you can deliver free-kicks like that, they are world-class moments.
"And, he comes big again for the second goal with the assist for Connor, again, and both of them are showing fantastic leadership again.
"But I am really proud of the whole team and the subs that came on were effective for us and we have come to a tough place and will take away what we came for."
It’s yet more goals netted from set-pieces for the Light Blues with the hard work being put in behind the scenes coming to the fore once again.
The manager added:"We put the work in as a staff - Tom [Culshaw] is obviously at the forefront of that, but the players have got to go out execute it.
"The delivery has got to be good, the movement has got to be good and then you have got to be big and put your chances in, and the players are really doing that at the moment."
