After winning the Youth Cup at Under-18’s level last season, the shot stopper played his part as the Young Gers got their hands on the historic trophy for the first time since May 2022 after a thrilling 3-2 win over Celtic at the City Stadium.
Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the evening, he commented: “It is brilliant, obviously to come out on the right end of it is massive for us and the academy and on a personal note as well getting my second trophy in a year.
“It is good that we came out on the end of it, we didn't play particularly well but in a final it is irrelevant as long as you win that is all that matters.”
“It is an Old Firm so no matter what you want to win, but with a final it adds that extra bit of pressure I suppose.
“Finding a way to win is massive and we done that.”
The young Northern Irishman was proud of the ‘resilience’ the team showed having being pegged from winning positions twice on the night, before Zak Lovelace fired home a winner late on.
He continued: “Obviously it shows a lot of resilience from the boys.
“We are still a young team; we had a bit of experience but only up until half time that was.
“It was good from the young lads to show that they have got that resilience in the locker as well because it is not all about just playing football it is about being able to dig in deep and win games of football so they have done well.
“If anyone asked you how do you want to win a game you would say a last minute goal.
“It was nice but also the pressure of when you do go in front then they are piling on pressure they are trying to get a goal back so it becomes difficult but you have got to concentrate, focus and do the right things right until the end and we done that, so credit to the lads.”
Several team players including Rabbi Matondo and Oscar Cortes were involved on the night as they continued their comeback to full fitness, as the youngster spoke of sharing a field with them and continuing to try gain opportunities at that level with manager Philippe Clement watching on.
He added: “Rabbi and Oscar they are both experienced players, both have played for the first team many a time.
“It is good for the lads to understand what it takes as well and that level and try match it and try get up to it, up to speed with that level that they are playing at.
“It was good to have them involved and to win the game.
“Clement watching? When he is here it is a good opportunity to go and play well but even if you are just training it is still a real good chance to go and prove yourself round there, because he is watching all the time.
“You might think he is not there but he is, I know from experience.
“He is always around, he likes the academy and he wants to use the academy so it is massive for the boys, they need to have the belief they can make that step.”
