The young Gers marked their first competitive home fixture of their competitive Best v Best campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory over Everton Under-21s, courtesy of goals from Arron Lyall, Thompson Ishaka and Ross McCausland.
The triumph followed a positive performance in defeat to OH Leuven’s first-team, which was played at Leicester City’s Training Ground last Saturday lunchtime.
The Light Blues rounded off their pre-season plans beforehand with two victories in Northern Ireland, with McCallum’s side registering four successive victories ahead of the competitive campaign.
OUR OPPONENTS
The Lancashire side are coached by Andy Farrell, who made over 250 appearances for the Clarets as a player between 1987 and 1994.
His side have enjoyed a string of positive results recently, recording a 3-0 victory over a young Leeds United side in a 70-minute fixture at their training ground in a pre-season run-out earlier this month.
The Clarets then travelled north of the border and produced an impressive triumph over Hibernian B at St. Andrews in midweek, running out 5-1 winners ahead of their trip to Glasgow tomorrow.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
B Team Head Coach, David McCallum: "It’s another good challenge. The good thing about these games is that they are not just about us turning up and thinking solely about ourselves, rather we need to have a think about what challenge and tactics the opposition may bring.
"It’s really good for the guys because they should come off the pitch physically drained, but also mentally drained because they have to think a bit more about what the game will look like. We’re looking forward to it. These are great games to be involved in and the players are really enjoying it so far.”
