MATCH
Rangers B v Everton Under-21s
Wednesday 26 July
Rangers Training Centre
Kick-off 3pm
OUR FORM
The young Gers began their pre-season campaign with successive victories over Dundee and Fleetwood Town Under-21s in Glasgow, which were both played behind closed doors.
David McCallum’s side then embarked on a tour of Northern Ireland, opening their account with a 3-1 victory over Northern Irish Premiership outfit Crusaders at Seaview.
Bangor were next on the agenda for the Light Blues, with goals from Zak Lovelace, Josh McPake and James Graham rounding off a 3-0 triumph at Clandeboye Park.
Rangers faced a stern test in their most recent outing against OH Leuven’s first-team, tasting defeat at the Leicester City Training Ground despite taking an early lead through Thompson Ishaka.
OUR OPPONENTS
The Toffees finished 8th in their Premier League 2 campaign last season, two points ahead of Manchester United and just two points behind Arsenal in the final standings.
They most recently kicked off their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers, before many of their Under-21 group played out a 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park over the weekend.
The side are coached by Paul Tait, who has been instrumental in the development of players such as Ross Barkley, Anthony Gordon and our very own Kieran Dowell.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
B Team Head Coach, David McCallum: "It's an exciting start to what we could consider our league. Everton will come to us on Wednesday and then Burnley on Saturday, so it's an excellent three-game programme to start with. If we can hit close to the levels that we showed on Saturday against Everton, who will be bringing a more like-for-like squad age, then we know we'll give ourselves a chance of performing and the result will take care of itself if that's the case."
Midfielder, Arron Lyall: “It’s two top sides who we’ll be coming up against. They may not be as experienced as OH Leuven were today, but it’s still two top academies down in England. Hopefully we can take the positive energy into our next two games and get two big performances.”
