A first half double from striker Kayla McCoy put the Light Blues in control at the break in a half they dominated possession. A Tessel Middag header in the second period added a third before Kirsty Howat rounded off the scoring as Gers produced their second win in four days.
Malky Thomson made seven changes to his side that claimed a 4-1 victory over Aberdeen on Wednesday night. Goalkeeper Victoria Esson came into the side and there was a start for youngster Kirsty Mclean.
Brogan Hay, Jenny Danielsson, Sam Kerr, Lizzie Arnot and Kayla McCoy were also recalled to the starting lineup from the weekends win.
The Gers started on the front foot as they looked for an early breakthrough in Dundee. Sam Kerr found space around 25 yards from goal but fired her long-range effort over the top of the crossbar.
Rangers best piece of play in the opening stages came just after the ten-minute mark, after some good work down the right side by Brogan Hay. Finding the runner in Kerr she slipped a clever through ball which found Jenny Danielsson inside the penalty area.
Recognising Lizzie Arnot was placed in a better position she cut the ball back, but the winger fired over the top.The Gers went in front just short of the quarter hour mark, a fantastic through ball by Kirsty Maclean found Nic Docherty who was in advanced position in behind the Unite backline.
Cutting the ball back left footed she found Kayla McCoy who was well positioned to fire Rangers ahead on her left side at Gussie Park.
Maclean who started the game in impressive fashion went close to doubling the lead, after some quick footwork to take it round Natasha Bruce she tried a shot at goal from over 20 yards as it just sailed over the top as the away side threatened to double the advantage.
Kerr was next to go close after a well worked throw in routine. Taking the bouncing ball from Docherty on the half volley but it sailed just wide of the far post.
Danielsson went close with her a left footed effort after cutting inside from the right channel as the Gers ramped up the pressure to go two in front on the half hour mark.
The away side doubled their lead and made the spell of constant pressure count and it was second of the afternoon for McCoy, getting on the end of an expert delivery to the far post by Brogan Hay. The striker peeling round the back and tapping the ball home on the volley for herself and Rangers’ second of the contest.
Two almost became three straight away, captain Kathryn Hill picked out Arnot down the left flank. Latching onto the bouncing ball her shot was well kept out by McNicoll who turned it round the post.Brogan Hay produced a great stop on the stretch by McNicoll as the Gers looked to add a third before the break.
In the next phase McCoy had an opportunity for a first half hat trick but saw her strike find the side netting as the Light Blues went in at the break two goals to the good.
The away side started the second period fast. Controlling possession in the early stages as they pressed for a third goal which would put them out of sight in the contest.
Despite dominating the ball, the Light Blues couldn’t create any further clear openings after the hour mark in Dundee. The hosts defending their box well and restricting the Gers to any space.
Substitute Kirsty Howat created the away side’s best chance of the early second half. Taking the ball on the turn the striker found Arnot in behind the United backline but her left footed effort went just wide.
Jenny Danielsson went close to a third for the Gers. Receiving the ball from the left side she struck an effort from 25 yards at goal which struck the underside of the bar and stayed out.Rangers made it three with just under 20 minutes remaining.
A corner kick delivery from the left side was met by Tessel Middag at the near post and her header found the inside of the near post to put the contest beyond any doubt as the Gers made the most of their second half pressure.
Fellow substitute Kirsty Howat almost added a fourth just shortly after but saw her left footed strike whistle past the far post as the match entered the final 15 minutes.
Howat got herself on the scoresheet with just under five minutes remaining. The striker picking the ball up from Danielsson’s pass inside the penalty area and finishing across the keeper into the far corner for the Gers’ fourth of the day and her third goal of the week.The away side remained in complete control of the remainder of the match as they picked up where they left off from Wednesday night’s victory.
