Goals from Kirsten Reilly and Lizzie Arnot had Rangers 2-0 ahead at the break before Motherwell got one back early in the second-half through a Katie Rice free-kick.
Malky Thomson named three changes from last Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox as Janni Arnth and Megan Bell came into the starting XI with Brianna Westrup and Brogan Hay on the bench.
Jane Ross returned to the matchday squad after missing the last two matches, while Chelsea Cornet is also named in the squad for the first time since early February as she continues her recovery from injury.
Rangers lined-up with Jenna Fife in goal and a back four of Demi Vance, Chantelle Swaby, Janni Arnth and Nicola Docherty.
Tessel Middag, Sam Kerr and Kirsten Reilly were in midfield, with Lizzie Arnot and Megan Bell supporting Kayla McCoy.
It was a strong start from Rangers in Motherwell and they opened the scoring inside the first five minutes through a great solo effort from Kirsten Reilly.
The midfielder showed her determination to win the ball back from a Motherwell player just on the edge of the box before striking a powerful left-footed shot into the bottom corner of the net for her fourth league goal of the season.
The Light Blues were forced into an early change with just 10 minutes on the clock as Megan Bell went down injured and was replaced by Brogan Hay.
Hay was straight into the action and linked up well with Nicola Docherty down the right, before the Rangers captain whipped a dangerous ball into the box. Sam Kerr rose well to get her head to the cross but Motherwell goalkeeper Ciara Duff was on hand to collect the effort.
Despite Rangers dominance in this match, Motherwell had an effort as Lori Gardner found Kayla McDonald-Ngauh on the edge of the box but she couldn’t keep her shot on target as it curled wide of the Rangers goal.
Lizzie Arnot forced a save from Ciara Duff as the game approached the half-hour mark. The forward picked the ball up on the left-hand side of the box and showed her skill taking it onto her right then back to her left to create space and get a shot away but it was held by the Motherwell keeper.
Kirsten Reilly came close to getting her second of the game with another fantastic long-range effort after some good build-up play from the Gers but this time the midfielder’s strike was just inches too high as it dipped and landed on the roof of the net.
Gers were piling on the pressure before the break as Sam Kerr saw a header saved after a ball into the box from Brogan Hay.
That pressure paid off as it was 2-0 with 44 minutes on the clock. Demi Vance made a fantastic run down the left wing before picking out Lizzie Arnot in the box. The Scotland international took a touch before guiding a left-footed effort beyond Ciara Duff and into the back of the net to take her SWPL 1 tally to an impressive 20 goals this campaign.
Motherwell started the second-half strong and managed to get themselves back in the game from a free-kick.
The set-piece was awarded just inside the Rangers half at the touch line and it was an impressive finish from Katie Rice. She released an unstoppable strike towards goal which beat Jenna Fife and saw the Lanarkshire side reduce the deficit.
Rangers almost responded instantly as Kayla McCoy picked out Brogan Hay at the back post but she touched the ball just wide of the post.
McCoy had a chance herself shortly after to restore the two-goal advantage but Ciara Duff made a good block to deny the striker a goal.
Sam Kerr came close with a long-range effort but Duff was again able to gather as Malky Thomson’s side continued to look for that third goal.
The home side were still looking threatening and came close to an equaliser as Katie Rice’s corner was headed onto the bar.
However, Rangers managed to hold on for the victory in Motherwell and secure another important three points in the league.
