Josh McPake fired Rangers ahead early in the second-half before a quick equaliser from Chelsea’s Tariq Uwakwe levelled the scoring.
Rangers started brightly and after just six minutes tested Chelsea keeper Jamie Cumming. Dapo Mebude found the run of Jamie Barjonas with the Rangers number 10 getting a shot across goal from a tight angle but his effort was pushed away by the goalkeeper.
On the 13th minute Jake Hastie’s corner was met by the head of defender Filip Helander who directed the ball towards goal. His header was blocked by Cumming but the rebound landed at Josh McPake whose powerful shot was blocked by a defender.
Andy Firth was called into action on the 26th minute as a Chelsea corner taken by Tariq Uwakwe bounced in the box before being headed by Juan Castillo towards goal. With Chelsea forwards ready to pounce on the loose ball Firth bravely caught it, taking a knock in the process.
Firth was called into action again before the break as he got a strong hand on a powerful shot from Charlie Brown to push wide.
The best Rangers chance of the first-half came from Jamie Barjonas as his right-footed curling free-kick from the edge of the box beat the goalkeeper but bounced back off the bar to deny Graeme Murty’s side a goal.
Just a minute before the break Firth denied Chelsea an opener as Charlie Brown was through one-on-one with the Gers keeper but he stood tall to block the strikers shot.
In a lively end to the first half Rangers came close with the final kick of the half as Jordan Houston found Dapo Mebude in the box but shot from close range was saved by Jamie Cumming leaving the game goalless at the break.
Just three minutes into the second-half Jake Hastie and Dapo Mebude linked up well with Hastie beating the Chelsea defender for pace and firing a dangerous ball across the face of goal which was knocked just wide by Josh McPake in the box.
Shortly after Tariq Uwakwe found space at the edge of the box and slotted a low shot towards goal but it was comfortably saved by Andy Firth.
Rangers were ahead on the 52nd minute as Jordan Houston worked well down the right before finding space to cut-back to Josh McPake in the centre of the box who directed the ball past Jamie Cumming.
The lead only lasted for six minutes as Chelsea got back level through Tariq Uwakwe as he headed past Andy Firth at the far post.
Graeme Murty’s side came close as substitute Kai Kennedy played a through ball to Dapo Mebude who run into the box and turned round his defender before shooting across goal but his effort was saved low by the Chelsea keeper.
On the 85th minute Chelsea substitute Marcel Lavinier came close but his shot from inside the box was pushed away by Firth.
