A double from Jane Ross either side of a Brogan Hay strike saw Malky Thomson’s side pick up all three points at Rangers Training Centre.
The Gers boss named one change to his side from the last match against Celtic in the Scottish Women’s Cup two weeks ago as Megan Bell came into the starting XI with Ciara Grant on the bench.
Rangers lined-up with Jenna Fife in goal and a back four of Nicola Docherty, Brianna Westrup, Chantelle Swaby and Demi Vance.
Tessel Middag, Sam Kerr were joined in midfield by Megan Bell, with Lizzie Arnot and Brogan Hay supporting striker Jane Ross.
It was the visitors who had the first attack as Charlie Wellings slipped the ball through to Clarissa Larisey but she dragged her shot wide of Jenna Fife’s right-hand post.
At the other end, Tessel Middag picked out Lizzie Arnot in space at the corner of the box with a lovely ball but Arnot’s curling strike was als wide of the target before Chloe Craig headed over from a Celtic free-kick.
It was the Gers who took the lead with 10 minutes on the clock after a strong start for Malky Thomson’s side. It was good build-up play from the Light Blues as Tessel Middag fed the ball out to Brogan Hay before she found the run of Nicola Docherty on the overlap.
The full-back whipped a dangerous ball into the box which evaded the Celtic defenders before Jane Ross showed her composure to take a touch before burying the ball in the bottom corner with a right-footed finish.
Rangers were probing for a second of the afternoon as Lizzie Arnot’s ball into the box caused problems for the Celtic defence as they failed to clear the danger with the ball eventually falling for Jane Ross but her shot towards goal was blocked by Celtic.
Charlie Wellings tried a hit from distance for the visitors as the game headed towards half-time but Jenna Fife was alert to deal with the danger as she held the shot comfortably.
At the other end, Lizzie Arnot found space down the left to fire a ball across the face of goal but Brogan Hay was just inches away from getting a touch to divert it goalbound.
Into the second-half, captain Brianna Westrup headed wide from a Lizzie Arnot corner as Rangers looked to increase their advantage. Charlie Wellings threatened at the other end as her strike from the edge of the box bounced wide of the post.
That second goal did come for Rangers less than 10 minutes into the second-half as Malky Thomson’s side increased their control on this derby.
Arnot was again involved in the build-up as she drove to the byline before cutting the ball back to Jane Ross. Ross’ shot was blocked by the Celtic defence but Olivia Chance’s clearance fell for Brogan Hay inside the box and she fired a powerful shot into the far corner of the net beating Rachael Johnstone.
Another fantastic bit of play from Rangers saw them go 3-0 as Sam Kerr showed determination down the right to keep in a ball that looked destined to go behind for a Celtic goal kick.
From there, Rangers threatened on the edge of Celtic’s box as Brogan Hay found Lizzie Arnot. Arnot played a one-two with Kerr before Arnot’s cross was headed home by Jane Ross for her second of the afternoon.
It was an impressive display from the Light Blues as they almost added a fourth shortly after. Demi Vance whipped a ball across the face of goal but a Celtic defender managed to get a crucial touch to knock it behind for a corner and take it out the path of Lizzie Arnot at the back post.
Celtic came close to getting one back in added time as Charlie Wellings strike hit the crossbar before Tyler Toland’s shot was held by Jenna Fife.
